For the past four years, Karen Goering has served as the project manager for the renovation and revitalization of the Soldiers Memorial and Court of Honor. She has worked for the Missouri Historical Society (MHS) for more than 38 years and currently serves as the managing director of administration and operations. In her years with MHS, Goering has held many varied positions including art curator, chief curator, and director of museum and public programs. As acting executive director in 1987 and 1988, Goering oversaw MHS’s inclusion into the Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District (ZMD). She served as project director for the renovation of the Library & Research Center from 1988 to 1991 and the expansion of the Missouri History Museum from 1996 to 2000. Goering serves on the Forest Park Advisory Board, the Landmarks Association of St. Louis, the Tamástslikt Trust, the Water Tower Park and Preservation Society and the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation. She is an accreditation reviewer for the American Alliance of Museums and received a Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Midwest Museums. Goering received a BA from Wichita State University and an MA in urban studies from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was a Truman Scholar.
