Karen Daniels has been working in the field of historic preservation since 1989. She has a Bachelor’s degree from the Southeast Missouri State University Historic Preservation Program and a Master’s degree in Heritage Preservation from Georgia State University. She worked for the Southeast Tennessee Development District between 1989 and 2001 working with all federal historic preservation programs and assisting local communities develop museums, heritage tourism and historic preservation programs. During that time she assisted in countywide surveys and completed more than 25 National Register nominations. She has been with the Missouri Department of Transportation since 2001, doing Section 106 and Section 4(f) compliance for architectural and bridge resources. She has done mitigation for several architectural and bridge resources. She has worked on programmatic agreements for bridges, allowing for mitigation of these resources as a type with a related history, instead of as individual resources.
