G. Faye Dant, a 5th generation Hannibalian, was born Gloria Faye Green. She grew up in Douglassville and is a product of the Hannibal Public School System, her current employer. Faye is a recent addition to the Missouri Humanities Council Board of Directors. The Board sets the strategic course for MHC, maintains fiscal oversight, acts on grant requests and oversees the work of the very capable Executive Director and staff. She is also on the board of the Marion County Historical Society and the selection panel for the NEA and the Missouri Rural Arts Council.
Faye is also creator and Executive Director of the Hannibal African American Life and History Project (HAALHP), a local “Black History Museum” which invites visitors and residents to explore the history of Hannibal’s African Americans from slavery through reconstruction and segregation. In 2013, a new home, name and addition of Samuel Clemens- the humanitarian- resulted in the opening of Jim’s Journey: The Huck Finn Freedom Center.
